This New Horror Film Is Now Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Romantic Bond.

Consider this a test for long-term couples who appreciate the horror genre: Get comfortable with your loved one and view Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its streaming debut on Hulu. Outwardly, it might appear like typical biological terror, but inside Together resides a intense examination about our choices in loving each other.

An Introductory Film Delving into The Nuances of Love

Together marks the first full-length movie for director Michael Shanks. It showcases the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Millie and Tim, a pair who are not married that have been together for ten years. Having wed in actuality in 2017, Franco and Brie contribute a special spark to their portrayals, expertly portraying both the strengths and weaknesses of a committed partnership.

The plot starts when Tim and Millie relocate from the big city to the rural area for professional reasons. A commonly used plot device, admittedly, but that’s primarily where the cliches conclude. Together becomes as much a psychological exploration of the pair’s relationship as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Paranormal Spark

While walking near their new home, a tempest descends, and the protagonists discover an subterranean cavern. After a night spent there and managing to escape, a supernatural entity starts to affect the duo. This force creates a supernatural closeness between them that goes well past emotional intimacy.

The whole movie is a slow burn horror experience, blending bits of hallucinatory nightmares, disturbing (but not excessively graphic) biological grotesqueries, and authentically humorous interactions (sometimes amidst something disturbing). Michael Shanks orchestrates these parts neatly and presents them in a slowly mounting atmosphere of fear.

Layered Performances

A great deal of Together is exclusively Brie and Franco, and they masterfully render numerous complexities to the characters’ relationship. Millie’s confidence and feeling of intimacy is waning due to a lack of intimacy. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his reluctance to focus on anything other than his floundering music career inexorably rises.

Conversely, Tim experiences isolation and cut off by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve left the city and distant from his network of friends. He fears the concept of completely losing his sense of self in another person. This fear is amplified by the circumstance he does not operate a vehicle and is dependent on Millie for mobility.

The film's most intelligent aspect in this movie never makes one partner or the other the clear bad guy.

Both characters confront the kind of problems that arise in any relationship a decade in. At their core, they continue to care for each other. They still laugh together, offer support, and open up at times. But below this facade, there’s an unavoidable current of uncertainty about their bond.

Thematic Depth

While the supernatural forces in Together act as a metaphor for these anxieties of unhealthy attachment and giving oneself over to a partner, the metaphor does not come across as overly obvious or pretentious. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes provide a perfect parallel to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the horror and the drama work together symbiotically.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s conclusion, which is best experienced firsthand, has created disagreement on the story's concluding statement about unhealthy partnerships. Reports indicate that single viewers have understood the narrative as a powerful case for remaining unattached. On the other hand, a few pairs having disagreements found that the film ultimately assisted them resolve their issues.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own reaction could act as a great barometer of how you think about commitment. Will the conclusion plant anxiety and horror, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you recognize your own traits in Tim or Millie and feel frustration, or simply glance toward your partner and say, “We could get through that together”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an exploration you can embark on right now.

Together is streaming on the streaming service Hulu now.
